The New Towns Committee of Cabinet [N.T.C.C.] is an informal cabinet committee formed in 1974, in order to investigate the feasibility of a satellite community development in the East Selkirk area. "In the first meeting of the [N.T.C.C.], the M.H.R.C. [Manitoba Housing and Renewal Corporation] was instructed to work with the Land Acquisition Branch to identify suitable lands in the East Selkirk area, to make offers to purchase to the owners of that land, and to initiate expropriation proceedings if those offers were rejected." "[On] January 22, 1976, N.T.C.C.directed M.H.R.C., through the agency of the Leaf Rapids Corporation, to engage in a conceptual planning exercise with a view to providing short, medium, and long term development alternatives for the East Selkirk area."--Page 3. |
