Summary:
"The Nelson River estuary is the major estuary in western Hudson Bay but had received almost no study until an interdisciplinary survey in 1988 (Baker 1989). The use of rivers to generate electricity has raised concerns about the effect of changes in the pattern of freshwater discharge have on the aquatic biota in the river estuaries. To verify patterns observed in 1988 and to obtain quantitative or comparative qualitative estimates of biomass and distribution of aquatic biota, the survey of the Nelson River estuary was repeated in 1992 using a greater variety of sampling techniques."--Page ii.
